Restaurant Accountant

Restaurant accounting differs from the responsibilities of the regular business accounting; so also the needs and expectations from the accountant. Apart from income from patrons, cash flow and inventory, for example, are some of the major areas within restaurant accounting. Restaurants have long working hours and often these may stretch further. The restaurant accountant must remain alert to ensure that all instances of expense and income are recorded, at the very basic of bookkeeping and accounting levels. This would mean keeping track of transactions occurring in the extra time period the restaurant is catering to customers. The work can be grueling, and the accountant needs a sharp eye to accurately record all financial transactions taking place in the restaurant, including in the kitchen.Checkout Keedies for more info.

Accounting work in a restaurant can be very different from that in another business, regardless of the business size.

-Restaurant accounting

Restaurant accountants need to document all transactions within the restaurant; whether it is income coming in from paying customers or expenses due to stock-taking in the kitchen and the supplies store. There are vendors to be paid for produce, restaurant supplies such as crockery, etc.

Typically, accounting cycles in restaurants begin with the customers paying for their food. Regardless of the timings, whether rush hour or not, this payment must be recorded in the books as a financial transaction. If there are different sections such as dine-in, take away, and home deliveries, a restaurant may keep different ledgers for each. Whatever the case, the accountant will need to ensure all records are complete and accurate for the income or expense made by the restaurant per day. These records will finally go into making a complete financial report. Financial reports serve as the strongest indications of the economic health of a restaurant.

-Statement of Income

The income statement of a restaurant reflects the earnings in terms of profits and losses. The restaurant accountant will usually maintain this record over a fixed time period such as a week. The income statement documents both, profits and losses through income, inventory and expenses. Weekly income statements work better for restaurants, given the long working hours. Income statements are also important because they can tell, at a glance, how well a restaurant is performing.

-Cash flow management

Perhaps one of the most important responsibilities managed by the restaurant accountant. Cash is one of the most important components of restaurant accounting. Daily sales need to be kept track of and money that is spent as expenses too needs to be noted into the books. The accountant will also need to maintain transactions taking place in the stores and the restaurant inventory; in effect, manage cash flow on a daily basis. This could mean keeping track of everyday food used from the store and/or food supplies and produce that has been ordered. Many restaurant accountants find it easier to note down inventory expenses on a weekly basis to determine overall restaurant profits.

A Spotlight Of Water Filters Blog

Water is an essential component for life. However, in many places, tap water, whether from municipal supplies or a well, has odors, sediments, and bacteria. While bottled water is a safer option, it can be expensive in a large household. Other families are worried about the extra garbage they generate when they use commercial bottled products. In such circumstances, household filters provide safe, potable water without the need to purchase cases of bottles.Learn more at

Household filters come in four types. They can be for the whole house, under the sink, over the counter, or attached to the faucet. The whole house filter will ensure that all water that is used in the house has been filtered – water in the kitchen sink, bathtub, dishwasher, and washing machine. This water filter will ensure that there is not any sediment deposit at the bottom of the toilet bowl or bathtub and that the appliances are also protected. However, the large amount of water filtered by these systems may require frequent changing of the cartridges.

Under the Sink
A more economical way of providing clean drinking water to household members is to install an under the sink filter. Once installed, it is out of sight but provides filtered, clear water via the kitchen faucet. It is convenient to use and the cartridges last longer. However, only the water used for cooking and drinking is filtered by these systems.

Over the counter and faucet mounted water filters are the simplest to install. They do not require any alterations in plumbing or fixing. Some types of countertop filters are just placed on the kitchen counter and the water is poured into the filter chamber manually as you would into a coffee maker. Others connect quickly to the faucet with a bypass valve to redirect water to the filter.

Faucet water filters are attached directly to the faucet in the kitchen sink. They filter the water as it leaves the pipe and require no expertise to install.

Utilizing a UV Cartridge
Apart from the various models available, household water filters also differ on their ability to filter various contaminants. Some filters are fitted with UV cartridges that kill bacteria present in the water whereas others have a sediment filter to keep out rust and other sediment from being mixed into the tap water. There are filters available to remove this odor as well. This can be done by a filter with a granular activation carbon. On the other hand a house relying on well water should have a water filter that will kill bacterial contamination. This type of water source requires an UV cartridge. Sediment filters are ideal if the water is colored with rust particles.

Another major water contaminant is lead. Older homes could have pipes soldered with lead. Many municipal water pipes too still have lead soldering. A safe way of removing any possible lead presence from drinking water is by installing a lead filter to the pipe leading to the kitchen sink.

Fire Safety Tips

If you have a serious fire in your office building, your fire sprinkler system, fire alarms and fire extinguishers can only protect you so much. The most important thing is that you, your coworkers or employees understand how to act so that everyone can get out of the building safely. Fire safety in Sydney concerns safety measures to prevent the effects of fires. Follow these fire safety tips to ensure that a fire in your building does not turn into a destructive tragedy.

Be Prepared

Be prepared and have a well developed and rehearsed action plan. It is the most important thing you can do to keep yourself and your employees safe from a fire.

-Contact a fire protection company to develop a building evacuation plan, and ensure you practice the plan frequently with your employees.

-Ensure the evacuation plan is posted visibly throughout your building and clearly shows at least two exits so people will have an alternative if one exit is blocked.

-Never block the exits with furniture, equipment, or anything else, and always keep all stairways and landings clear.

-Make sure everyone in your office knows the location of the fire equipments, and that they know how to use them in the event of an emergency.

Stay Calm

Staying calm is perhaps one of the most significant, and most difficult, things to do during a fire. It is vital that you keep a clear head and don’t panic in case of an emergency so that you can evacuate as safely as possible.

-Always use the stairs during a fire, never use the elevator. In the situation of a power outage, the elevator may get jammed, trapping you.

-Feel any door handles with the back on your hand for heat, and then feel the door from top to bottom before you open it. If the handle or the door is too hot, don’t open it, there could be smoke or flames behind it that could rush into the room. You can get additional information at

-Evacuate as quickly as possible, ensuring you close every door behind you to contain the fire, slowing it down as much as possible.

-If fire blocks your path, find a different exit as fast as possible. If you get caught in smoke during your escape, drop as low as possible and move toward the exit, so the cleanest air is going to be closest to the floor.

-If you can’t escape, remain positive, the fire department is on their way and they will be able to assist you. Most importantly, make sure you stay calm. Panicking and running around is the most perilous thing you can do in a fire situation.

A Guide To Culture Codex

Every company I know wants a high performance culture. Leaders want employees to be highly productive and perform their jobs well. Makes sense, for sure. The more productive our employees are and the fewer mistakes they make will increase the output. The result is we will be able to get more done with fewer resources. How do we create a high performance culture, though? It starts with hiring the right people. I’m sure that goes without saying, but the piece that many companies miss is the importance of the onboarding process and the effect this can have on speeding up the time to productivity in new employees.

Statistically, any new employee will take 3-6 months to get up to speed in their role. Often it takes longer before you begin to see that they can perform their job well without much intervention from management. What if you could reduce the time that it takes for a new employee to be a high performer by weeks or even months? It can happen if you have the right onboarding process in place. Our website provides info about  organisational culture

Most companies I know have some onboarding process in place. Typically, new hires meet with HR, complete the appropriate forms, perhaps get a copy of the employee handbook and at times go through a day of orientation. Then they are passed to the manager who is responsible for getting them trained, whether the training is done by another employee or the manager themselves. All good; it’s just not enough. To create the high performance culture you desire, the onboarding process needs to include performance metrics, continual supervision and oversight, and communication with the new employee.

Performance metrics for the first 30-60-90 days are critical. What do you expect them to know and/or be able to handle at the end of 30 days, at 60 days, at 90 days? Take the time to determine this and write it down. Share this information with the new hire. I’d suggest initially discussing only the first 30 days; you don’t want them overwhelmed. At the end of each week sit with them and find out what they know, what they don’t know, where they are making mistakes, what they can handle on their own, etc. This gives them the feeling that you genuinely care about them and want them to succeed. The value to you is more than just knowing what they know and don’t; it tells you how they respond when you correct them, whether they make the same mistake more than once and even what they might consider micro-managing. High performance is more about attitude than skill. Skills you can teach if the attitude is right.
